I created this virtual museum as a way to make history available to a new generation of Australians. As the digital world is constantly evolving I know that to achieve this goal I must evolve with it and so have launched an iPhone application associated with the museum.

Rather than just replicate the website on a mobile device I wanted to give regular users something different and so set about designing an app that would not only appeal to people who already had an interest in Australian Military History but also to those people for whom the First World War is something they only ever think about on Anzac Day.

While researching many of the memorials that make up this website I was constantly coming across stories of courage and daring in the numerous citations for bravery awards that exist. What makes these even more remarkable is that these brave acts were carried out by men who, mere months earlier, were bakers, carpenters, doctors, farmers. Everyday Australians. To read the lengths they went to for their country was very inspiring.

Thus the idea for the app; Lest We Forget: Australia’s First World War Heroes, was born. Once downloaded to your iPhone you will be given a different  short, true story every day that details the bravery shown by Australians during the First World War.
