February

Only a minor update this month with the addition of three profiles; those of A.H Hastings, C.L Webb and D.W Weaver, which can all be accessed to the right.

I have also added a picture of a recent addition to the museum's collection, a WW1 trench lantern. Surprisngly effective, this lantern uses magnified candle light for its illumination.

A New Year

I would like to begin by wishing everyone best wishes for 2012 and to say thank you for coming back to Lest We Forget (or visiting if it's your first time). Over the past few years I have maintained this site as a tribute to the brave men who served our country during the First World War and I intend to do that well into the future, preserving not only their stories but also any physical material I can obtain to add to the museum's collection.

I intend to conduct monthly updates of the site, with new memorials and additions to the collection. So ensure you visit around this date each month for something new. If anything crops up in the meantime I will be sure to mention it here on this blog.

Several items from the virtual museum will be on loan to various physical museums throughout the year (and the next few years as a matter of fact) so I will be sure to let you know when and where they will be.

Thank you again for your support in 2011 and I hope that continues into 2012. As always I welcome any additions you would like to make to the site (feel free to write up your family's story) and if you happen to have these already feel free to contact us.

Kind Regards

Damian.

Remembrance Day

Today is November 11, Remembrance Day, the day when we all pause at 11am to think about all of those brave men and women who have answered their country's call and so willingly offered up their own lives for our freedom. Lest We Forget.

Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget

This week I have added the memorials of A.J May, C.I. Ebbrell and V.E.T. Overend.

The museum has also obtained a very large collection of Sydney Mail newspapers which contain hundreds of photos of diggers who were wounded or killed during WW1. I will be scaning these for inclusion on this site over the coming months.

More memorials

More memorials

I have added a few more memorials including those of W.G. Graham, J. Horsnell, G.D. Hughes and A.C. Clarke.

I have also obtained for the museum a very interesting item; the engine room clock from HMAS Australia. It will make a nice addition to the large collection of timepieces we already hold.
