J. Horsnell
The story of John Horsnell

John Horsnell enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in June 1917, having only just turned 18. A joiner from South Australia he had already served time as a cadet and was assigned to the 9th Light Horse. Upon enlistment he presented permissions from both his father and employer.
He spent the remainder of 1917 in training here in Australia before embarking in November bound for the Middle East. Once he arrived in camp he resumed training before being transferred to the field engineers.
He remained with the engineers in the Middle East all through 1917 and all of 1918, with only a few minor spells in the hospital.
He returned home in July 1919 and was discharged.
