V.E.T. Overend
The story of Vassalle Elvy Thomas Overend

Dairy farmer, Vassalle Elvy Thomas Overend enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in January 1916. Assigned to the 3rd battalion he left Australia in June 1916, arriving in England in August where he remained for a little over a month before joining his battalion in France.
However he was only in the front line for a little over a month when he was killed. There are conflicting reports as to his death in his Red Cross file with several men saying he was killed by a shell while others saying he was shot by a sniper.
He was buried in the field and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial as well as on the Bombala town memorial and the honour board in St Cuthbert’s Church.
