R.S. Beveridge
The story of Roy Stuart Beveridge

Roy Stuart Beveridge was a 22 year-old clerk when he enlisted for service with the Australian Imperial Force in March 1915. Initially assigned to the 20th battalion he left Australia in June, going to Gallipoli where he remained until the end of the year when he returned to the Middle East following the evacuation.
He went to France with his battalion in March of 1916 and saw extensive action throughout the year except for a few brief periods in hospital to have an ulcer on his leg treated. He was wounded in action during the battle of Pozieres and sent to hospital where he remained for a month before rejoining his unit in early September.
In November 1916 during attacks near Flers Beveridge was killed in action. He was buried in the field by his fellow men (in Needle Trench) and is remembered on the Villers-Bretonneux memorial.
